Brezilya hukumeti 100$'lik bilgisayar projesine ciddi olarak egiliyor. Hedef 2 milyon laptop üretmek. Bunun yarisi okullarda bedava dagitilacak, diger yarısı da ihrac edilecek.
Bilindigi gibi 100$'a laptop projesi M:I.T Medyalab'in kurucusu Prof. Negroponte'nin yil basinda Davos'ta ortaya attigi bir proje. Renkli ekranli, internete kolayca baglanan (cep telefonu dahil) Linux temelli bir bilgisayar dusunuluyor. Negroponte'nin ekibi ekran tasarimi uzerine calisiyor. Brezilya disinda baska ülkelerde ilgileniyor.
Prof. Negroponte, Brazilya devlet başkani Luiz Inacio Lula
da Silva bir gorusme yapti. Brezilya plani incelemeye başladi. Agustos sonunda ikinci bir toplanti planlaniyor.

Brazil is seriously considering a plan to build 2 million low-cost laptops, with half of them to be distributed for free in local schools while the other half could be exported.
The possibility for Brazil to build 2 million low-costs laptops is part of a project launched by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology which aims to provide ?one laptop per child? to children around the world. The proposed laptops would cost about 100 dollars each, have colour screens and be fully connectable to the Internet and cellular phones. Running on open source Linux operating system the machines would contribute to bridging the gap between computer haves and have-nots among the Brazilian population.
Following a meeting with Professor Nicholas Negroponte who is the director of the Massachusetts Institute of technology, President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has ordered a work group to study the plan and particularly the question of financing. Professor Negroponte expects to return to Brazil at the end of August for further discussions.
